
Volunteer Firefighter Coverage from VFIS
Elite Benefit Solutions offers the Volunteer Firemen's Insurance Services (VFIS) program to firefighters throughout Manitoba. VFIS insures over 1,000 fire departments in Canada.
The VFIS program provides financial protection from the costs of an unexpected Injury or Illness a volunteer firefighter may suffer as a result of participation in a covered activity. These costs include medical expenses, lost income due to disability or other physical losses that affect the volunteer firefighter or their family. A wide range of activities are covered including but not limited to emergency responses, training, fund-raising events, and official functions.
The Accident and Sickness benefits provided include:
- Loss of life benefits
- Medical and disability benefits for injuries you get when responding to a fire, fighting a fire or on a training exercise
- Benefits for contact with HIV
- Cosmetic disfigurement from burns
- Family expense reimbursement
- Lump Sum Physical Impairment (PPI) benefit
- Lifetime PPI for serious impairment
VFIS also provides "Off Duty" accident coverage to both volunteers and their families. This coverage protects from financial hardship in the event of accidental death and dismemberment or accidental injuries.
Some of the coverage includes:
- Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D)
- Two times the base coverage for paralysis
- Day-care benefit
- Home alteration and vehicle modification
- Repatriation benefit
Plus additional coverage for the volunteers only:
- Accident weekly disability benefit
- rehabilitation benefit
- family transportation benefit
VFIS Accident and Sickness plans are available to all volunteer firefighters whether they are employed elsewhere or have no other source of income. If you are covered by Worker's Compensation we can give you additional protection. For those firefighters in the province who are not covered by WCB, we provide the coverage you need.
